What does the petition look like?
A petition is prepared individually for each property owner within the district. The petition language address the items that are mandated by state law. Those items are:
- The legal name of the district
- A description of the boundaries of the district
- The purpose of the district
- A description of the allowed uses of the funds raised in the district
- The term length of the district
- The maximum tax assessment rate allowed over the term of the district
- Guidlelines as to the make-up of the SSMID governing board
Each petition is identical except for the listing of the specific properties that the owner has within the district. This data is used to certify that there are enough owners (at least 25%) representing enough property (at least 25% of assessed value) to meet the minimum specified by state law for a acceptable petition.
