Medical District Informational Meeting Held In Heart of District.

November 3, 2010: Cedar Rapids, IA – The Medical District Steering Team conducted an informational meeting in the Lutheran Fellowship Center, located in First Evangelical Lutheran, 1000 3rd Ave SE..

The meeting's purpose was to update district property owners on the new name, graphic identity and where the project stands. Property owners learned more about pending traffic redirection and changes, as well as information about establishing a Self-Supported Municipal Improvement District (SSMID) to form a governance system to manage and implement improvements to the medical district. Creation of a SSMID requires a petition drive, which gathers signatures of property owners in support of the proposed medical district.

Once the petition is drawn up – it will specify the physical scope of the district, activities the district can undertake and outlines the maximum tax rate the district is allowed to collect. The medical district steering committee continues to finalize these details and looks to start gathering the required property owner signatures before the end of the year. The steering team aims to get a majority of property owners to back the SSMID.

March 9th & 11th

In early March two meetings were held to kick off the planning of the Medical District. Ninety-two people attended those meetings providing the steering team with good feedback on the overall concept and suggestions about how the district could add value to their businesses and quality of life.

The links below provide transcriptions of the comments and suggestions as well as copies of the written feedback forms. These comments are part of the basis used in the planning and design work currently being undertaken by Anderson-Bogert/Sasaki.

As comments sheets are received they will be added to those already collected and will be part of the input into the planning process.

Keeping In Touch With the Neighborhood Associations

Association Meetings have provided the Steering team with a way to reach out to the neighboring areas to get their input into the process. Members of the Steering Team continue to emphasize the importance of keeping those associations up to speed on what is transpiring in the District. Many of the associations have interests common to the property owners within the District.

The District Steering Committee will continue to meet with association representatives during this process. Interested parties are encouraged to contact the Steering Committee using the link at the bottom of this page.
